Project Origins
How it all started
Nuestro Voto began a few weeks before the 2021 elections in a family meeting in my hometown.
We noticed a great lack of information about candidates after realizing none of us knew who the candidates were, what they proposed, or what they had done in the past.
Seeing this was a very common thing, even for old people, we quickly started entertaining the idea of creating a simple website showing information about each candidate in my town.
So I thought, how hard could it be to make a website with a list of candidates and interviews two weeks before the election?
Well, it was hard, but we did it and interviewed about half of the candidates, not because of time, but because some of them were impossible to reach.
Results & Impact
and ambitious goals
After seeing how this tool was used by about a thousand people in my town and getting possitive feedback, we dediced to expand the project and set the ambitious goal of covering all the candidates in Mexico for the next elections in 2024.
In order to achieve this, I started working on a new design of the site that would be allow such a thing. My plan was to use Elder.js for the site generation given its main feature of being able to generate thousands of pages in minutes.
Part of the new design also included a wiki for politics in Mexico, where people could learn about the political system as you can see in the video.
Unfortunate End
Free platforms are not free
Despite the platform's positive impact, there was a lack of community support which was crucial to achieve our goals. Maintaining and updating the information is only possible with collective efforts.
After multiple attempts to get people involved, we decided to shut down the project and focus on other things, leaving the website as a static site for historical purposes.
